Topsail Storms: Rain Bands

This is another shot from Topsail before Hurricane Florence ran us off. I love the soft brush of the rain over the ocean.
Topsail Storms: Out to Sea

We went back for our annual trip to Topsail only to have it cut short thanks to Hurricane Florence. However I was luck enough to get some shots before we had to go. This is one of my current favorites and I am thinking about making it a triptych for the wall.
Topsail Storms: Clouds Like Fire

As I looked up as the storm began to pass overhead I was astounded by the wicked look and texture of the clouds. When I turned it black and white it almost took on the look of fire.
Topsail Storms: Rain on Waves

Here is a panorama as the storm progressed up the coast to begin to encompassed us as well. I really liked how the rain coming down started to give the waves a softer look.
Topsail Storms: Rays and Rain

As one of the storms headed out to the ocean it then started making its way up the coast. I really liked how this shot looked in black and white and had some faint sun rays and well as the rain in the same shot. Location: Topsail Island, NC Settings: f/2.8, ISO 100, 1/500 of

Topsail Storms: Night Lightning

On a recent trip to Topsail Island, NC we had a thunderstorm roll out to the ocean at night. The lightning was lighting up the landscape from pitch black and I knew it would be a great time to try and capture some!
Topsail Storms: The Wicked Shelf

While at Topsail we had a couple storms come through and over the coming weeks I will be posting shots from them. For the first one, I thought I would share this shot of a massive shelf cloud boring down on the beach. I was almost giddy as I stood out taking pictures of it while the gust front blew through and then I scrambled for cover as the rain began coming down. Living in a hilly, forested state, it is so very rare to get a great view of a storm like this! Needless to say, I was a little excited.
After the Storm

After a storm that knocked the power out and destroyed a huge tent we had in the back yard, the setting sun lit the underside of the clouds in pink. It was beautiful! Location: Gretna, Va Settings: f/4.0, ISO 250, Shutter Speed 1/20 of a second.
Flying in the Light.

Caught this pelican at just the right moment. Flying through the light in the aftermath of a stormy sky near dusk.
Trying something New: Weathering the Storm

So I have decided to try to post at least 1 picture a week this summer to get some consistent movement on the blog. So here is the first shot: This is from Top Sail beach in NC. The storm was out to sea and really framing the bird on the long strut of an old pier. I tried a bit of a time lapse to get a smooth ocean. I loved the colors.
