Smoooth Waters

We were on the way back from an excursion to a deserted island near Charleston. The light on the water as we glided by looked smooth and almost mesmerizing. I still get that feeling when I look at this shot.

You wanna fight!?

Caught this praying mantis in full on warning mode trying to fend off a cat. It was quite an impressive display and he got away.

Flying in the Light.

Caught this pelican at just the right moment. Flying through the light in the aftermath of a stormy sky near dusk.

Trying something New: Weathering the Storm

So I have decided to try to post at least 1 picture a week this summer to get some consistent movement on the blog. So here is the first shot: This is from Top Sail beach in NC. The storm was out to sea and really framing the bird on the long strut of an old pier. I tried a bit of a time lapse to get a smooth ocean. I loved the colors.

Charleston: Folly Beach Sunset

Last year we came down to Charleston, SC for a conference for Cathy and while there we took a trip down to Folly beach. Uwharrie National Forrest Anniversary Excursion: The Uwharrie

If you visit the Uwharrie the first thing you will learn is that most of its trails main audience is horse back riders. Fortunately when we stopped by the ranger station on our way in we were informed that if we wanted to try hiking any of the trails that were for Horses, Bikes, and Hiking, that we would want to not do that on a weekend because they would be packed with horse riders and thus dangerous to hikers.

Uwharrie National Forrest Anniversary Excursion: Marrow Mountain State Park

This year for our anniversary my wonderful wife planned an excursion to the Uwharrie National Forrest. It is an awesome place to go for hikes. On the other side of the lake from it also lies Marrow Mountain State Park. Both are very picturesque. We started it all off right with a visit to Marrow Mountain State Park.

Great Bend Park at Glenco

Near the old Glenco Mill in Alamance county you can access part of the Mountains to the Sea trail. It is also part of the Haw River Trail. It is a beautiful hike, complete with views of the Haw river and a man made waterfall. Well worth a visit.

Northeast Park

Here are some shots from one of our recent hikes at Northeast Park in Guildford County.

Down on the Bayou

We recently went down to Louisiana and were definitely treated to the full flavor of the deep south! The images above came from a feast of 250 lbs of crawfish. As you can see we ate well! We also were lucky enough to be right on Bayou Teche. The next images are from the dock.
